They say childhood is the best time of your life. When you are young, in your childhood, you don’t see it but as you grow older, you realize how true it is. What attracted me to adulthood as a child was the ability to purchase as many snacks you want without having to take the permission of anyone. Those days, no one cared about the new post restaurant or eatery in town. Days were spent in stuffing our faces with chocolates, toffees and crisps. I was just thinking the other day, it was a good thing that we didn’t have online grocery stores then as I would’ve ordered a tonne of snacks from there. HowMuch is the best grocery store in Pakistan for online purchases and I see children ordering snacks a lot from there.
Full disclosure, I also use it to order snacks! Why? Because they have some of the snacks that I am really nostalgic about, the ones I grew up eating. Today, let’s reminisce about our childhood, carefree days and look at the popular snacks of the past. If you have had them, your childhood must be awesome, if you didn’t, well, look for them on HowMuch because you really are missing out otherwise!

BP Spacer:
This was a long, sweet, somewhat hard candy that was one of the most beloved candies of its time. It was cheap and tasty, therefore, every child of the 90s has probably tried it. It has been disappointing to see it disappear from retail stores as, in my eyes, it was truly revolutionary!
Top Pops:
Long before Lays and Oye Hoye had taken over, Top Pops was what people sought after when they were craving crisps. Adults loved it equally as the kids. It was available in two flavours and both tasted amazing. You could find small whistles and tattoo stickers inside the packs then.
Ding Dong:
This bubble gum lived in the hearts of the children of the 90s. From its attractive ads to it’s sugary taste, children were drawn to it like moths to a flame. Those days, spout, Trident and other famous chewing gum brands weren’t a thing. It was just ding dong. You can still quite easily find it at a nearby store, but its hype has considerably died down over the years.
Polo:
The big brother of mentos in Pakistan is what I like to call it. Polo is a mint that has a hole in its centre and it is so refreshing and tasty that just writing about it is making me miss it! You can still find it at some stores, but, like ding dong, it’s not as popular as it once was. I still strongly believe that this mint is much better than the alternatives that have come in the market.
Chilli Milli:
Candyland’s chilli milli is one of a kind. It’s a gummy bear that is spicy and sweet in taste. Some call it a signature Pakistani snack, and I am inclined to agree. You’ll only enjoy it if you have a love for Pakistani and Indian cuisine because spicy candies aren’t for everyone to enjoy!
Cocomo:
This particular snack is loved by people of all ages. And the good thing is that over the years, it hasn’t lost its popularity. In fact, many different flavours of the snack have come about now. But, the best still remains to be the chocolate one!
